Idella Andrea (Barnes) Wade Obituary
Idella Andrea Barnes Wade of West Palm Beach FL, was called to rest on June 24, 2024. She was born on September 28, 1938, in Tallahassee, Florida, and was a beacon of knowledge, love, and service. Growing up in a close-knit family, she pursued education passionately, graduating as salutatorian from Lincoln High School in 1955 and earning degrees from Florida A&M University in 1960 and Atlanta University in 1966. She relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida where her career in library science spanned three and a half decades at the historical Roosevelt Junior College and Palm Beach State College, where she was celebrated for her deep expertise and unwavering dedication until she retired in 1995. Idella was a devoted wife to Ralph Wade and a loving mother to Sharon Kaye Wade (Alexander Edmonds). As a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church Idella's faith anchored and deepened her commitment to civic causes. Her life was rich with community service, through her involvement with various charitable organizations such as, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Las Novias Society, FAMU National Alumni Association, The Cancer Society, the NAACP, The Southern Poverty Law Center, and The American Library Association. All of the organizations reflect her profound compassion and determination to uplift others. Idella’s legacy endures through her daughter, Sharon, grandchildren, Brandon and Branielle Edmonds, and all who were touched by her wisdom and kindness. She leaves an indelible mark on the world around her.
