Elizabeth Dene Darby
May 22, 1928 – September 8, 2024

Elizabeth Dene Darby, affectionately known as "Dene," passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024, at the age of 96, at Bethesda East Hospital in Florida. Born on May 22, 1928, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Hubrecht and Gertrude (Scott) DeVos, Dene was one of five children, growing up alongside her siblings Bert, Marxan, Jimmy, and Isaac in a loving home.

Dene attended Hartford High School, where she met and married the love of her life, Edward Darby. Together, they shared a long and happy marriage, raising three children—Edward Jr., Sandra, and Alton. As a devoted wife and mother, Dene found her greatest joy in caring for her family. While she also worked as a cosmetologist and later served as a paraprofessional for the Hartford Board of Education, it was her role as a stay-at-home mom that she cherished the most.

The family resided in West Hartford for many years before Dene and Edward relocated to St. Stephen, South Carolina, where they spent 30 wonderful years together. In 2014, they retired to Florida to enjoy their golden years. Edward preceded her in death, passing on September 8, 2015, exactly nine years prior to Dene’s passing.

Dene is survived by her children, Edward Darby Jr. and Sandra Darby. She is also lovingly remembered by her four grandchildren: Taren Barker, Alphonso Mack, Benjamin Darby, and Nicholas Darby; and her four great-grandchildren: Alaiya, Brooklyn, Dylan, and Avery. Dene is predeceased by her youngest son, Alton Darby, and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

A Meet and Greet will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 AM at Bell & Clark Funeral Home, located at 3900 Broadway, West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Following this, a Committal Service will take place at Glenwood Memorial Cemetery, 1233 W 6th St, Riviera Beach, FL 33404.
